Sitanunku Lodge sits in a unique position on the bank of the River Gambia. Each evening offers you a breath taking sunset which can be enjoyed from our panoramic terrace overlooking the river and Dog Island. The atmosphere here is perfect to unwind to. The honest, freshly cooked meals and various activities like guided bird watching walk; fishing from our private jetty and canoeing to Dog Island are all included within your stay. Our dedicated team will provide you with a true Gambian hospitality.

Your stay at Sitanunku Lodge is on a half board basis. The delicious full ‘English’ breakfast is a great start to the day, which can be enjoyed in your lodge or on the panoramic terrace. In the evening our chefs will present you with a 3 course table d’hôte choice menu using local produce and the vegetables and herbs come straight from our own garden. For lunch you can order from our a la carte menu.

Sitanunku Lodge is not part of any busy resort and its secluded location is ideal for those looking for a quiet and relaxing retreat, bird watching and for those who enjoy fishing. The rural villages can be explored and are lush with local culture. A visit to the nearby village of Juffureh (home of Kunta Kinteh) and St. James Island can easily be organized as well as visits to the Fathlala Wildlife Park in neighboring Senegal, a cruise on a sailing catamaran or one or more days of sports fishing. The waters around Dog Island are renowned for excellent Tarpon fishing and international records have been broken here.

Adjacent to the river side terrace with our restaurant and bar you find our salt water plunge pool, set on the bank of the river surrounded by mangrove trees. A small walk brings you to our private beach directly opposite Dog Island. This small and uninhabited island is in easy reach with one of our courtesy canoes; the braver ones can swim to the island. The entire lodge is powered by solar energy and back-up generator and our own borehole supplies fresh and pure water.

During summer 2011 a fresh water pool, a second restaurant and more lodges will be constructed but this will in no way interfere with your tranquil stay.

The rooms

Set among the well kept grounds are 5 individual lodges with a terrace overlooking the tropical garden; some have direct views on the river. All our spacious rooms are individually decorated offering simple but comfortable accommodation with double bed and a sofa bed. Mosquito nets are provided for both the windows and the beds. Comfortable chairs are provided both inside the lodge and the terrace. As the lodge is mainly powered by solar power there are no air conditionings units in the rooms but a ceiling fan, the shade of the Baobab trees and the light breeze will keep the lodges cool. Each bathroom has a large walk in shower. A complimentary bottle of water awaits you upon arrival.
